In this area they walk up to 4 hours to get water

It took them a year to raise enough funds to build this school

We really did some work. This is a orphanage that the church has built to house about 20 boys

It is near completion. In the picture is sister Jensen, one of the office couple in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.

We also visited four water wells that the church completed in 2006

The schools where the well's were installed are no longer working.

We were there to see what could be done to help.

On our arrival in Tanzania we traveled by ferry to an island were we stayed for the night.

The resort was call Sunrise Beach.

The beaches were beautiful and the water was as warm as your bath tub.

Trip to Johannesburg Temple

We have three families that we took to the Temple.

Steven & Annastaciah Mwangangi, children Bramuel, Samuel & Winnie.

Peter & Gladys Mutunga Mwangangi, children Rhoda and Michael.

Peter & Phillis Kithuku, children Elizabeth, Joseph, John, Nicodemus and Emmanuel.

After our trip the children all commented that they wanted to go back to the temple

Irene Mwikya center her sister Caroline right.

Irene served a mission in Rwanda where she met and taught the young man to her left.

Caroline was in the MTC getting ready to serve her mission in Uganda.

The young man is currently serving as a trainer in the MTC.

This was a great day for Irene, she was able to see her sister and the young man she helped convert and go to the temple her first time all in the same day.

Irene was one of our group to attend the temple from Chyulu. At the time she served her mission temple excursions were not part of the missionary preparation program.

Our accomodations proved more difficult than expected.

Our weary band struggling for the next meal!

Some meals were interrupted by threats of stampeding elephant. President Taylor takes his turn with binoculars to watch for un-invited guests. If you have never been in such primative conditions, you will find this hard to believe.

Managing to prepare for meals was a constant struggle.

Happy to be in water. Our guide estimated the weight of the big bull elephant in the background to be 7 tons. (See video below of 7-Ton Big Boy, before he made it to the river.)

Mr. Reticulated Giraffe loves the leaves of the acacia tree which has sharp pointed thorns closely spaced all over. He has a very skillful tongue to remove the tender leaves without injury.

We make building bricks from the red mud, stack them, pack the outside with mud leaving vent holes, then build a big fire in the center to temper and cure the brick.
This cussed thing won't go again, at least I have plenty of help. Hey, watch out for the door!

A home in the Chyulu area
There are a lot of Baobab (bay-o-bob) trees in the Chyulu area. The roots of the baobab grow up into the air eagerly waiting the rains. On dark nights, with no moon light and especially when the sky is over caste, the baobab trees move around, and are found in different locations in the morning. Some baobab's have picked up entire homes, and the people inside find themselves high on the top of the roots at daylight. Click on the picture for a enlarged view of the baobab, if you DARE!
